Fun Fact Lowdown Vol. 4

Marriage has always been an interesting concept to me. I mean I grew up like everyone else,  watching Cinderella and all of the Disney princesses getting married at age 16.
(Seriously though.. I recently watched some old Disney movies.. were they really advocating marriage at 16?!)
I always wanted my happily ever after and I found it when I was 20.. I'm still in my ever after and it's not always happy.
I do love being married though.  Is nice to have this person who I consider as my best friend,  that has to deal with my craziness. Although marriage isn't all butterflies and roses,  it's still a very special thing to experience.  I thought it would be fun to make this week's Fun Fact Lowdown about marriage and maybe you will even learn something you may not have known before!

Fun Fact Lowdown: Marriage

The term “marriage” derives from the Latin word mas meaning “male” or “masculine.” The earliest known use of the word in English dates from the thirteenth century

Married couples need to spend more time together. On average, a married couple only spends about 4 attentive minutes a day together.

A marriage ceremony typically ends with a kiss because, in ancient Rome, a kiss was a legal bond that sealed contracts, and marriage was seen as a contract

A 2008 study found that marital satisfaction improves once children leave home. However, if marital problems existed before, an empty nest often reveals those otherwise masked issues

Washington, D.C., has the lowest marriage rate in the nation

Employees in a happy marriage, tend to increase a company’s bottom line.

The first recorded mention of same-sex marriage occurs in Ancient Rome and seems to have occurred without too much debate until Christianity became the official religion. In 1989, Denmark was the first post-Christianity nation to legally recognize same-sex marriage

While couples with children are less likely to divorce than childless couples, the arrival of a new baby is more likely to bring more stress and emotional distance than new happiness. Nearly 90% of couples experienced a decrease in marital satisfaction after the birth of their first child.

A white New Orleans man in the late nineteenth century transfused himself with blood from a black woman he loved so he could overcome anti-discrimination laws by claiming he was black and marry her

The cost of an average wedding is $20,000. The cost of an average divorce is $20,000.

Birth order can influence whether a marriage succeeds or fails. The most successful marriages are those where the oldest sister of brothers marries the youngest brother of sisters. Two firstborns, however, tend to be more aggressive and can create higher levels of tension. The highest divorce rates are when an only child marries another only child

How I saved hundreds of dollars for Christmas.

Christmas is an expensive time of year for most.  For my family,  we set a strict budget for Christmas and try not to go over.  This year though is the first year I came out under budget!  We set a $900 budget for all Christmas gift purchases. Since I don't work and my husband has had a kind of crappy sales year, we needed to have a strict budget to not overextend ourselves.
For a few years, I've been using some money making apps to earn a little extra cash for Christmas and birthday gifts. This year it's really paid off!  I was able to use $150 from these apps to put toward Christmas! Using rewards from stores has saved me a good chunk of cash as well!
Want to know exactly how I saved so much money?
Kohls: I love taking advantage of Kohl's because they have great deals,  and they give you kohls cash for purchases you make.  This year I did some shopping at Kohl's and ended up with $55 in Kohl's cash. So I was able to use that toward a few gifts for my extend…

My Favorite Finds of 2018

2018 is coming to a close. I cannot believe how fast this year has gone by.  2018 brought many fun things to my life.  For 2018 I made a goal to get out of my comfort zone,  to be a better parent, and to find more hobbies that interest me.  I did a pretty good job with all of these parts of my life. I started this blog which is really out of my comfort zone.  I've also been able to make a few new friends which are a miracle for me.   I worked on how I talk to my kids.  Apologizing to them more often when I do something wrong,  and making sure I tell them I love them as often as I can.  And as for the new hobbies, I've started a few.  I count my blog as a hobby since it's not really a money maker right now,  and I love writing for it.
I've found a bunch of things that have improved my life in some way or another and I want to share them with you.  Maybe you might find something new you haven't tried or something that can improve your life in 2019!

How to Find Success in Life

Success is something everyone wants, but we might define it differently. A lot of people associate success with having lots of money or having a fancy job title.
I think success can be a lot of different things. You can have success in relationships,  or creating that family you always wanted,  maybe it's being a successful athlete,  or getting that master or doctorates degree you have been working so hard to get. I think success can be anything you want that involves you to work hard to get.
There are some things you can do to help you live the successful life you want.

1. Have a great emotional intelligence.
Emotional Intelligence is something that is important to work on regardless of where you are in your life. To have or improve on emotional intelligence, you need to work on understanding both your emotions and other people's emotions.
When your able to identify how your feeling, you are able to control them better. It will help you to be able to step back and look at…
